In July 2019 I travelled to Andalucia, expecting to be surrounded by Union Flag shorts, Estrella and Stag Dos. Staying 30mins inland I instead found a stunning landscape where mountain lakes were a blissful alternative to packed beaches.
Quiet, warm nights and low light pollution meant that hours could just be spent outside watching for shooting stars.
As you move toward the sea however, the authentic Spain is covered with the veil of tourism, particularly once you reach the poser's pretentious playground of Puerto Banús.
